On the existence of competitive equilibria in bandwidth markets∗

چکیده
The recent collapse of bandwidth markets motivates our study. We describe the economic framework for such a market. Examples demonstrate the problems in finite markets in which bandwidth trades in indivisible units. Competitive equilibria exist under the continuum model of perfect competition. We explore the countably inifinite economy as a model of perfect competition for such markets. Finally, we show existence of various enforceable and non-enforceable approximate competitive equilibria.

Efficient Market Mechanisms and Simulation-based Learning for Multi-Agent Systems
This dissertation has two independent theses. In the first part, we study the design auction-based distributed mechanisms for resource allocation in multi-agent systems such as bandwidth allocation, network routing, electronic marketplaces, robot teams, and air-traffic control. The work is motivated by a resource allocation problem in communication networks where there are buyers and sellers of...
متن کاملMore on equilibria in competitive markets with externalities and a continuum of agents
Equilibrium existence results are presented for competitive markets with externalities in price and consumption and a measure space of agents. These unify and extend [Balder, E.J., 2003. متن کاملCompetitive equilibrium of incomplete markets for securities with smooth payoffs *
Recently, there has been renewed interest about incomplete security markets. Hart (1975) provided an example of nonexistence of competitive equilibria for incomplete real securities, which are claims to commodity bundles. Given this finding, Duffie and Shafer (1985, 1986a, b) prove generic existence of competitive equilibria of incomplete real security markets. Husseini et al. (1990) Geanakoplo...
متن کاملFinancial Economics I Lecture Notes on : Competitive Markets for Insurance
Do competitive insurance markets function orderly in the presence of moral hazard and adverse selection? What are the properties of allocations attainable as competitive equilibria of such economies? And in particular, are competitive equilibria incentive efficient? The fundamental contribution on competitive markets for insurance contracts is Prescott and Townsend (1984). They analyze Walrasia...
متن کاملCompetitive Equilibria with Asymmetric Information
This paper studies competitive equilibria in economies where agents trade in markets for standardized, non-exclusive financial contracts, under conditions of asymmetric information (both of the moral hazard and the adverse selection type). The problems for the existence of competitive equilibria in this framework are identified, and shown to be essentially the same under different forms of asym...
